One third of the world’s land surface is threatened by desertification. The amount of arid land increases by 12 million hectares each year, making it a global problem. The chosen theme for Expo 2021 in Doha is “Green Desert, Better Environment”, inspiring visitors by proposing solutions to promote a prosperous green life in the desert, in fruitful international cooperation.

An event ready to make history

The Site consists of three areas. The northern area will host the international exhibits, while the remaining two areas will be activated by a variety of functions and experiences. Each area of the site will be programmed to offer a unique experience to participants and visitors.

  • 3,000,000 visitors

    Three million worldwide visitors are expected to attend Expo 2021 Doha, Qatar.

  • 155 days of celebration

    From 14 October 2021
    to 17 March 2022.

  • 1,700,000 sqm of Green Future.

    Expo 2021 Doha, Qatar will be located in Al Bidda Park, in the heart of Doha a few steps away from Corniche Street situated between West Bay and Doha Port.

    An area of 150,000 sqm is reserved for the international participants

  • International Area

    The expo gateway and focal point of international gardens, exhibitions and events. The northern part is approximately 700,000sqm in size.

  • Family Area

    Utilising a  wealth of existing features, this section of the park will act as a hub for family fun, activities, gathering and outdoor pursuits. The central zone is approximately 500,000sqm in size.

  • Cultural Area

    Its proximity to the historical core of Doha and  existing features such as the Old Fort and Old Rocks make it the perfect venue for cultural and traditional activities and exhibitions. The southern zone is approximately 500,000sqm in size.

Doha is the capital city of Qatar and is strategically located within the Gulf Region on the eastern coast of the country, overlooking the Persian Gulf. Doha is Qatar’s economic centre with the country’s fastest growing urban conurbation with a population of over 2.7 million people.

Expo 2021 Doha is one of several progressive development milestones identified in the "Qatar National Vision 2030 (QNV2030)". QNV2030 emphasized all sustainability aspects within its four development pillars; economic, social, human and environmental.

Qatar is successfully taking lead in the Middle East by hosting the Horticultural Expo 2021 Doha, besides being the first in the region to host the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

How to get there

The EXPO site is located on the west of Doha city, 2,5km from West Bay, 3.5km from Doha Port and about 12km away from Hamad International Airport.
Highly accessible by public transportation, one can reach the site with the Metro Red and Green lines and via connection with the Gold line.

The site is also well connected and accessible
via four major roads:

  • Khalifa Street on the northern edge, connecting the site directly to the Corniche waterfront promenade and to the old City Centre.
  • Majlis Al Taawon Street on the eastern edge, linking  to the West Bay area to the north and towards the airport to the South.
  • Al Istiqlal Street on the western edge, that connects  to the north of Doha and beyond.
  • Al Diwan Steet on the sourthern edge, which is a common connection for the site between the cultural area and the Corniche waterfront.

Access to the site and the associated driving times are as follows:

  • 10 minutes to the West Bay Area
  • 10 minutes to Doha Port
  • 20 minutes to Hamad International Airport
